Women’s Self Defence on Auckland’s North Shore

If you’ve been unsure whether self-defence is right for you — that’s normal.

Krav Maga is designed specifically for self defence. Our training teaches you skills that work in real situations, regardless of strength or size. Training prepares you for situations where you may face verbal or physical aggression, whether that is for personal safety or in the workplace.

Many women come to us feeling curious but nervous. They’re not looking to fight. They just want to feel more aware, more capable, and less frozen when something feels wrong.

If that sounds like you, you’re exactly who this training is for.

  • You’ve never done martial arts before
  • You don’t feel “sporty” or aggressive
  • You prefer calm explanation over being shouted at
  • You want skills that work for women in real life, not a gym fantasy

Self Defence Taught in Real-life Context

In our classes you’ll learn practical self-defence techniques, always connected to realistic scenarios women may face.

We teach both soft and hard solutions:

  • Soft solutions focus on awareness, positioning, boundaries, and de-escalation
  • Hard solutions are there if avoidance isn’t possible and you need to protect yourself

Soft vs Hard Solutions — Real-Life Example

Example: Someone grabs your wrist

We don’t teach “one move for every situation.” We teach how to recognise what’s happening, choose an appropriate response, and act with confidence.

Soft solution (annoying or inappropriate, but not immediately dangerous):

  • Use a simple technique to release the grab and disengage
  • Follow with verbal command to set a clear verbal boundary, and stop the behaviour,
  • Leave safely without escalating the situation.

Hard solution (clearly threatening or unsafe):

If the grab is aggressive, persistent, or part of a larger threat, your response needs to change.

  • Use a stronger self-defence technique focused on breaking free quickly
  • Follow with striking technique to make the aggressor unwilling or unable to continue to threaten you (level of force appropriate to the danger level)
  • Create space, and get to safety.

Having options changes your response.

  • When you’ve practised self-defence techniques in realistic scenarios, you’re less likely to freeze or panic. That steadiness supports clearer choices, earlier boundary-setting, and a stronger ability to avoid escalation wherever possible.
  • You’ll be learning the tactics behind the techniques — when to act, when to disengage, and how to create space and get to safety.

How Women Rate Our Training for Self Defence

FAQs

Is Krav Maga suitable for women with no experience?

Yes. Our Krav Maga training is suitable for women with no prior martial arts experience. Many women choose to start with the Krav Maga Beginners Course, which provides a structured, supportive introduction to real-world self-defence, while others prefer to begin in regular classes. Both options are beginner-friendly.

What if I’m worried about injury or confidence?

That’s very common, and you’re not alone. Many women who start training here feel unsure about injury, confidence, or whether they’ll be able to keep up.

Training is structured, controlled, and introduced progressively, with a strong emphasis on safety and learning at a pace that feels manageable. You’re encouraged to work within your own limits, and there’s no expectation to push beyond what feels right for you.

Confidence tends to build naturally as you train — through understanding the techniques, practising in a supportive environment, and seeing your own progress over time.

What is the best way for women to get started?

For many women, the Essentials Course is a good starting point. It provides structure, progression, and a supportive environment before moving into regular classes. However, the regular classes are also suitable for beginners.

Is the training safe and appropriate for beginners?

Yes. Training is coached carefully and progressed gradually. Whether you start with the Essentials Course or regular classes, intensity is scaled to the individual so you can build skill and confidence safely.
